Type of Therapy Offered

Psychotherapeutic counselling for individuals. I primarily practice from a Humanistic viewpoint with a Person-Centred approach, which means that I believe that you are the expert who leads the conversation moving at your own pace. This is mainly a reflective talking therapy space, but as the facilitator of your process of self-discovery, I may draw your awareness to the somatic(bodily) senses that I see and feel whilst we talk. I may also utilise Solution Focused Brief Therapy ideas, if I feel it would be beneficial to the therapeutic outcome of the session, but ultimately this is about you, and what you would like to bring to each session. This is about us finding your answers together. Whether you're dealing with long-term issues, facing a new challenge, or you’re feeling stuck, having someone to really listen to you can be incredibly beneficial. I offer an emotionally warm, calm, and relaxed environment where you can explore your experiences and issues that you want to discuss. I am here to deeply listen with empathic understanding and reflect what I am hearing with compassion. To help you recognise your resilience, inner strength and how you have already learnt to adapt and grow, I am able to share knowledge from both my professional and lived experiences, if appropriate. According to your needs, I will also bring awareness to patterns that I see, and offer the skills and tools required, in the hope that you leave the therapy room feeling lighter than when you entered. My aim is to create a genuine collaborative space where you may find new meaning and positive change. I feel that building trust and connection within the therapeutic relationship is the essence of our work together. By offering you a safe space for exploration, so that you come away with a deeper understanding of self, and in the hope of you becoming more fulfilled and contented individual and improve relationships with loved ones and those around you. I recognise that getting to this point of reading a counsellor’s profile or website has taken both great courage and self-awareness, and I applaud you for making these huge steps, in the hope of a brighter future.

About Me

Hi, My Name is Clare Hitchcock. I am a registered and fully qualified counselling psychotherapist. I have had the fortune to have lived and worked in the beautiful area of Machynlleth for well over 20 years. Throughout my life, I have been involved in various areas of mental health which have included supporting and promoting independent living skills for individuals, alongside organising creative confidence classes for groups.   Before moving to Wales, I considered myself to be a global traveller with a curious interest in the diversity of cultures and recognising how people connect, which led to my interest in working in the mental health sector. Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked in the nurturing, practical, and the ‘hands on’ fields of hospitality, housekeeping, organic gardening and building restoration, whilst co-parenting and raising a large, blended family. I feel that all these experiences, my down to earth and personable approach resonate in my counselling practice and connectivity with others. After personally engaging in the counselling process on and off over the past few decades to help heal the wounds of my own life, I recognised the profound impact that counselling can make on a person’s future. Feeling empowered, 10 years ago, I embarked on the journey to learn the tools and the boundaries required to support others by qualifying as a therapeutic counsellor. This has now enabled me to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for those also seeking help with lifes challenges. I consider my area of specialism to be grief, loss, bereavement and ultimately change, as this is part of my lived experiencing and knowledge base. I volunteered for a leading bereavement organisation for several years and have also furthered my awareness and proficiency in this area by partaking in many hours of Continuous Professional Development, adhering to the requirements of the ethical body that I work within. I am also privileged to be an agency therapist for 2wishCymru.

"Clare was warm, kind and professional. After a devastating diagnosis in my family, I felt lost and overwhelmed. She supported me by helping me find the tools to remember who I am, so I could move forward once more. This has given me the strength to look after others and I am very thankful to her."

  • How can I work out if counselling is right for me?
To help you decide if counselling aligns with your needs, I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation via phone. This session provides an opportunity for us to discuss your concerns, explore how we might work together, and address any questions you may have about the counselling process.
  • What is the duration of each counselling session, and how many sessions will I need?
Each counselling session lasts 60 minutes. While I recommend starting with weekly sessions to develop a deeper understanding of the issues you wish to address, I also accommodate fortnightly and monthly appointments as we progress. The total number of sessions varies based on individual needs and goals, and we can discuss this in more detail during our initial meetings.
  • How much do sessions cost at Rebalance Counselling?
My fee is £45 per session. However, for individuals on a low income and students I offer concessionary rates, as I believe counselling should be open to all. So please do talk to me about this in our initial session, as I appreciate that attending therapy is a big decision financially and involves a great commitment.
  • How can I schedule a counselling session with you?
To schedule a session, please reach out to me through the contact information provided on the 'contact' section of my website, or click here. During our initial communication, we can discuss your needs, preferences, and arrange a suitable time for your session. I aim to offer flexible appointment times to accommodate your individual circumstances. If you have any other questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
  • Am I old enough to attend counselling sessions with Rebalance Counselling?
You need to be 18 years or older to attend counselling sessions with me. If you are under 18 and looking for support, I recommend seeking a therapist who specializes in working with young people. If you're unsure about your options, feel free to reach out, and I’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
